Walk Smart: A Children’s Pedestrian Safety Education

25-29 January 2016 – – Safe Kids Thailand and University student volunteers conducted the “Walk Smart: A Children’s Pedestrian Safety Educationfor 3,049 students (grade 1-6) in 90 classes, 10 primary schools in Bangkok. The purpose of the “Walk Smart” program was to provide knowledge and skills about pedestrian safety to The focus of the education was to teach how to walk and cross safely in difficult situations: when there is no walkway, on a riverside, in low-light areas, at a railway, in traffic congested areas, and a road with more than two traffic lanes. Safe Kids Thailand also developed a knowledge survey that includes images for each answer to help children understand. Teachers responded that this extra activity could be applied to real life situations and could not be found in the textbook.
